Should I go for 1600 MHz 8x1GB DDR3 or 1333 Mhz 4x2GB DDR3?

Which one would give better performance? The cost of a new 8x1 1600 would be 53 USD. The cost of used 4x2 1333 will be 30 USD.
I also have the option of buying a used 4x2 1600 for around 40 USD.

Which one should I go for? Is buying a used RAM safe?

I have a motherboard with 2 RAM slots only. I plan to mainly use for gaming and some school work and video editing.

Thanks very much!

well then you maybe better off with the 2x4 over one stick you want to keep the duel data rate/channel and not single over all and best to buy memory in a factory matched kit and not one stick here and one stick there cause theres no guarantee of compatibility or stability when you do that

You mean 1x8 and 2x4 right? If yes, go for 2x4 since it's alot cheaper and should perform better than a single stick.
And i think it's safe to buy used RAM since you cant do something bad to your RAM. It probably was never OCd.

I agree with the monkey. I deeply regret going with 2x4GB some 3 months ago.....

"oh, 8GB is more than enough for current and future games, and applications! Don't worry!"

bollocks!

Yes I mean 2 sticks of 4 GB. Ok should I for 1600 Mhz which will be around 40 USD or 1300 Mhz which will be around 30 USD. Both are used.

Thanks

any particular programs or games which you have experienced problems with while using 4x2 GB?

You'll run into some problems with "just" 8gb RAM @1440p for 1080p it's fine. I only know that a friend of mine had a few crashes in a Total War game @1080p with 8gb RAM but only at max settings. For anything else it's fine.

But 16gb RAM will prove usefull in some video editing applicaitons. I mean it's totally fine and possible with 8gb but 16 will do a bit better i think.

It's up to you if you want to pay extra for a bit faster editing and stuff.
If you're on a budget go for 8gb. But go for the 1600mhz one.

Can't afford 8x2 yet, so I think I should go for 8x1 now and possible upgrade in future.

This RAM good enough? http://www.netshop.no/m4n?seid=etailer-product&prodid=173020&viewMode=3
