I have a green one, and when they switch from ssd to hdd especially, it makes a vrrrrrrrrrr noise that even beats my fans at top RPM.. i believe it's normal.. Use something to make it more soundproof if it is bothering u!

its a SATA 64MB cache (WD2003FZEX)
also i have a be quiet case and the hard drive is mounted whit rubber rails and still ist very loud and my case vibrates like crazy when i use the drive

Transferred vibration does make things sound worse.

Straggly enough my Antec Sonata(rubber mounts and one of Antec's earlier quiet cases) had some of this so seeks did not sound normal, much more of a low droning sound because the case would slightly echo the sound.

Hi there wily wonka,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your drive. :(
Even though WD Black has slightly higher acoustics levels than the other WD internal drives, it shouldn't really make grinding noises. Furthermore, you've mentioned that it is slowing down. This is why, it may be a good idea to just back up your data until you sort this out.
After that, you can try attaching the drive to a different SATA port with different cables(SATA and power one).
Another thing you can do is to test it with WD's DLG tool(both short and extended tests): http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=QJdfQm

In case the tests fail and/or the grinding persists, it may be a good idea to contact WD's Support and eventually RMA the drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=qemMMX

Let me know how this goes,
