I build my own system abut 18 months ago and had to budget on some components, largely the graphics card ( AMD Radeon HD5450 )

I don't play any games whatsoever, largely I use for creating music, but have also started doing some video editing. I really don't want to spend any more than is necessary. Given that the spec of the machine is pretty good i7 - 16Gb RAM - SSD - Windows 10, im guessing that the sluggish response at times, when flicking quickly through various progs on taskbar could be due to the Graphics card ? Maybe it's not ?

I don't have any former reference to know if it is slow with video editing, as I've only ever tried it with current set up. Anyways do you have any suggestions if I were to replace it and would you buy new or used, the reason I mention it is I saw some NVidia gforce ( not sure what model ) for £35 in local cash convertors..

For video editing, rendering, etc i would say the R9 290X is the perfect GPU for the price. Even though it is not considered the best gaming GPU it does great for the tasks you need it to do.

However if you are on a budget the R9 280X comes after the R9 290X when it comes to computing power.

XFX or Sapphire are excellent brands to choose from if you are going to purchase a R9 290X or R9 280X.

that may honestly just be windows 10 glitches still.
I know my windows 8.1 booted up from off in about 8 seconds and when it was up it was fully running. Now with 10, it boots up just as fast but then lags for the first 30 seconds or so. not your issue in particular, but its still a very new OS so I would maybe give it time.

unless you want a new card anyway for editing
