Hey, I am hoping to get an answer to my question. I have recently tried upgrading my RAM on my PC. I was running 8GB of DDR3 1066 before the attempted upgrade with no issues. The first RAM I installed to upgrade was 16GB (2 x 8GB) of DDR3 1600. The RAM would not let the computer boot up, not even into the bios. I tried booting with just one stick of 8GB of the same RAM which would result in the bios loading up, but once Windows 7 tried to load it would go immediately to a BSOD. Another interesting issue I found is that when I did run the 1 stick of 8GB DDR3 1600, if you looked into the BIOS at the speed of the RAM it was only reading DDR3-1333. Settings were set to automatic on all options and even if I tried to manually change the memory speed my highest option was DDR3-1333. Next thinking that the RAM was possibly faulty or there was some kind of incompatibility, I went down to 8GB (2 x 4GB) of DDR3 1333. This produced the exact same result regardless if I installed the RAM by itself or with my old RAM on the other two DIMM slots. In the specifications of my motherboard I have seen that it is supposed to support DDR3 2600+(OC)/2133(OC)/1866(OC)/1600/1333/1066 types of RAM. I will list my specs below for further information. I am under the assumption that the speeds of the RAM do not have to match as I was told by the store tech which I purchased the RAM from. The BIOS should adjust the higher speed RAM to match that of the other lower speed RAM am I correct? Any help is appreciated.

Computer Specs:

CPU: Intel Intel Core i5-650 3.2GHz Clarkdale

Motherboard: ASUS H55DE3

RAM: GSkill 8GB (2 x 4gb) DDR3-1066

Video Card: Nvidia 950GTX

Powersupply: Coolermaster 700W

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I currently tried a 4GB module of DDR3 1333 and as stated above, the computer will not boot. Is this a timing related compatibility issue? I can still buy the old RAM that I have in the system from newegg. Its a pair of G.Skill 4GB at DDR3 1066. Would I have a noticeable benefit if I get 16GB (4 x 4GB) of DDR3 1333 vs DDR3 1066?

Hello, 2 years later I decided to resuscitate this thread because I encountered the same problem.
I got given two 8GB Zeppelin DDR3/1333 modules for free that doesn’t happen often, and the computer started acting up; I use Linux and at first it didn’t boot up at all, having some sort of graphics’ problem as it was showing fainted squares on the monitor.
With one module only it was starting, but as soon as I was opening Firefox it was crashing mdm, the display manager. With one or two 8GB sticks, same result.
Strangely, I put back in my 2x2GB DDR3 1333 MHz Corsair, and the computer was happily saying "Welcome to emergency mode!".
In the end, I had to reinstall the whole system, and now it works again with just 4GB.
I just wanted to share my experience, in the case somebody incurs in the same problem in 2017.
