MSI Radeon R9 390 or MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V

Solution
The R9-390 has much more VRAM and the latest reports indicate that DirextX 12 delivers a huge performance boost on AMD cards. Also, Battlefield 4 and GTA V are well optimized for Radeon graphics, so you should go for that one as long as your PC case has adequate cooling and your PSU is decent. If getting an NVIDIA card, then you should probably get a GTX 980 since it does not suffer from the 3.5 GB VRAM bug found on the GTX 970 (and GTX 960 4 GB cards).

It is NOT true that they are same. The higher the resolution, the most the R9 390 will outperform the GTX 970.

All depends on you. If you care about Performance and have a high Wattage Power Supply, go for the AMD.

If you care about 20 USD per power consumption per year difference between the AMD and Intel... Take Intel.

For me it's a no brainer... AMD...

Sorry Mate, two cases: or you don't look far enough and you're skipping things; or you're trying to misinform people...

In your own tests:

Check Battlefield 4, 3840x2160, look at the FPS...
R90: 27.6 FPS.
970: 25.1 FPS
--> 10% difference

Bioshock: 390 got better FPS @ MAX Resolution than even a GTX 980 (twice the price almost!)!!!

COD, GTX 970 above 6.5%

Civilization beying earth: R9 390 > GTX 970 of 8.5%

Crysis 3: R9 390 outperforms even the GTX 980

As I was saying, the R9 390 and the GTX are absolutely not the same cards. If you play on high resolutions, the R9 390 completely outperforms the GTX 970, and sometimes even the 980....

On lower resolutions, in terms of FPS, GTX stands a bit more on the top...

When talking about graphic cards, you can never say "they're almost the same". "That one is better than the other"...

No, everything depends on how you play with it (if it is for gaming)...

Did you look at the article I posted?

The cards are obviously trading blows from game to game. Gtx 970 has a advantage in witcher 3, watchdogs, project cars and new order just to name a few.

I did indeed look at your article. Looks like you don't look at the same one :) Or you stay stucked at lower resolutions.

I'll take the games you mentionned:

GTA V:
AMD outperforms on higher resolution

Witcher 3:
AMD outperforms on higher resolution

Watchdogs idem... And so on...

So, I repeat myself. 970 is better at lower resolutions. AMD is much better at very high resolution.

Immortalgiraffe.

Make your choice upon resolution. If you have a 4K screen, take the AMD for sure.

If you a standard lower resolution, 970 tends to be better,

I was wrong. Upon looking in to the article closer, the 390 won in most games at 1440p and 4k.

At 1440p, gtx 970 performed better in 6 out of the 22 games.

At UHD, gtx 970 performed better in just 5 out of 22 games.

When gtx 970 wins, it tends to win big and just shows the drivers superior in some games over the amd counterpart.
