Gta 5 does not run smoothly (quite sure my PC is powerful enough)

I'm using 4790k(non oc) + gtx970 with ssd and 8gb ram
Should be ok with this game in 1440p
(In fact gpu usage never exceeds 75% and vram is at around 3.0gb)
I've also turn normal vsync on with triple buffering, screen tearing is terrible in this game
Max prerendered frame set to 1/ allow maximum performance/ multi thread on/ single display optimisation on.
However I've encountered 2 problems

1. Microstuttering, sometimes when I run on foot I experience some lag (or maybe frame skip) in some scenario. And frame rate is sitting at 60, does not drop when micro stutter

2. Slight frame rate drop while driving, when driving in the road real quick with a lot of cars nearby, I can see the frame rate dropping to like 55-56 which is very noticeable for me.
Even when the frame rate is dropping my CPU usage is <50% and gpu usage is <75%....not convinced that it is a hardware limit....

Another question for those who still play farcry4:p, when playing this game one of my CPU core always reaches 90-100% while the rest sitting at 30-60%...is this normal? I run this game on 60fps but do not feel very smooth...

Thanks for help guys! Have done countless searching in Google but none of it helps

v sync and buffering will cause the game to become slower and also, 1440p is good on GTX 970, although with triple buffering, is it set in nvidia control panel or? Also, vsync restricts the frame rate to your monitor, so if you have a 60 HZ monitor, then you will only go as high as 60 FPS. I don't really know about far cry 4. Sorry. I would tell you to turn off v sync and triple buffering. Also, set everything to default in GTA v and nvidia control settings.

Thanks for answering, I have a 60hz monitor but I need vsync on to make the game works, screen tearing makes this game unplayable :(
In game vsync off and nvidia control panel vsync on
I'll try to turn those thing to default

Have tried to limit my fps to 60 with vsync on, screen still tear

Use msi afterburner for framerate locking, i dont recommend vsync to anyone at all btu then again im the kind of guy that absolutely cant stand input lag

Does this happen on other games? I mean, does the micro stuttering occur on other games? Have you tried Unigine Heaven benchmark, you could see if that makes any micro stutters. Also, the driving thing, happens to me too, I think it's because your going fast and everything has to load more quicker. For Far Cry 4, what are your settings, did you leave it as default or changed it? I would leave it at default to see if it still occurs. Far cry 4 is known for having smooth issues so yea, can't say anything else. Is it pirated or steam version?

In witcher 3 it does not occur, perhaps the pace of this game is much slower than gta therefore it is not obvious
I'll try benchmarking with heaven thanks!
I set everything to high, fc4 scaling from low-medium-high-very high-ultra
My gpu is also running at 1480mhz and does not notice gpu usage exceeds 90%
Just overall the game is not smooth even at 60 fps, like micro stuttering
My fc4 is on steam

Its runs really smooth here for me, but i have a frame lock through msi afterburner of 120 (screen tearing doesnt bother me nowhere nearly as bad as horrible input lag)... I hate not being aim to aim properly...

Does it run smoother with vsync turned off?

My Specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
GPU: Nvidia GTX 760 2 GB OC (1280MHz)
Motherboard: DX38BT
RAM: G.Skill 8 GB (4 * 2 GB) Dual Channel
HDD: 1 TB + 500 GB
PSU: EVGA SuperNova 600B

When you drive quickly in GTA V, my frames drop a bit because I'm using 2 GB card and overloaded it with high textures which causes the game to use 2.5 GB. It feels smooth but really, it's my CPU! Bottlenecking here, but since I'm suing 2 GB and playing a game that uses 2.5 GB, it will render slowly, thus, causing frame drops. Is you 970 2 GB or 4 GB?

Mine is gtx 970 4gb, 3.5gb more precisely
Vram never exceeds 3.2gb
CPU should be overkill as it is a 4790k
Have already done your advice getschwifty

Have experienced some strange thing, lowering resolution like 2048*1152causes much less microstuttering. I don't think it is a gpu problem as in both resolution my fps is 60.....gpu usage never exceeds 80% in both resolution

JUST MY GUESS: in native resolution 2560*1440 it shows 59hz while in 2048*1152 it shows 60hz
Have already turned nvidia vsync on and in game vsync off
in game FPS is 60fps but not 59fps

That's just a little glitch as 2040 by 1152 is an odd resolution, as it's 1152p. Sometimes, it's just the game, so don't worry. What happened in heaven benchmark, same thing? Does the micro-stuttering occur in heaven benchmark?

I mean any resolution below 1440p is perfectly fine, butter smooth
Gta5 in 1440p sometimes microstutter, but I can tell it's not my 970 not powerful enough....it's still 60fps with 70% gpu usage, 60 fps but still lag

Haven't tried the heaven benchmark haha, will try after work
