So, instead of buying a new all white case with a window i decided to "mod" mine. I'm adding a window on the side, repainting the entire PC case as well as the processor cooler (hyper evo 212)
GTX 960 (back plate, and cooler) all are going to be a color scheme of white black and red. I was wondering what type of paint should i use. I did the math and the highest tempurature i get on my components are roughly 165.2F or 74c for the GPU and 140F or 60c for the CPU at the highest possible (not saying thats my actual temps, but the highest they have gone with a stock CPU cooler and stock FTW cooler on my GPU)

Specs
DiY Skyline 07-R case (painting; currently black red, painting white red)
KRAIT SLI am3+ motherboard (not painting; color white black)
Avexir LED light up ram (not painting; color red)
Hyper Evo 212 (painting; basic steel color, painting to white changing the fan or painting it to white)
FTW GTX 960 (painting; black color, painting to either white, or white for the back plate and red for the cooler, or vice versa)
Corsair CX750M (painting; keeping the base black but painting the letters red)

Listed my intentions just so you have an idea.

What type of paint would i use so that it doesnt melt or burn at the highest temps those reach?

I wasnt asking for life span opinions. And if i use a light base paint the cpu cooler will do just fine as long as the paint can handle the thermal limits. Obviously my CPU isnt hitting 60c its never going over 40c on any game i play. And yes it is my money, because a 25$ project maybe less depending on the paint is a hell of alot cheaper then a 100-200 dollar case that'll fit my needs.

Yes Tea Urchin you're the immature one, because look at how you're talking to people who don't like your answers, or arent helpful. I asked what type of paint would be best not what i should or shouldnt do. As Techneeeq said manufactuers use a "Special" type of paint. What type of paint is that? With nowadays markets anything is available to buy.

Yes i have assumed you for being immature. Who the hell just starts calling people "Chum" for not agreeing with their statement/answer? Obviously someone immature. I'm not shark bait im sorry. Im a human being.

tbh I think it'd be easier if you bought a new case. I don't think painting a lower cost case is really worth it anyway. I could understand if it was a Corsair 900D or something where there's no change in color or choice anyway but with this case you're better off buying a new case especially if you're going to fork out on a window panel.

Right kids stop bickering. Simple solution:

Tea urchin this thread isn't for you. If he didnt respect your suggestion and had a go at you for it there's always a report button? P.S Chum is a great word, chum c;

OP, we are only trying to suggest what we think is best and if we think it's a bad idea we will always suggest it. Forums are like that.

I can see modding from a hobbyist perspective. Even old cases and parts can get a makeover and depending on the complexity of the mod I've seen some really nice results. It's not always cheaper by any means and some modders put 100's of hours into their work. As for painting the case, my advise would be to figure out what sort of metal it is. Most likely it's stamped steel though possibly aluminum.

For a nicer paint job that will stick, (assuming all parts are out of the case and front bezel etc is off, barebones) strip any current paint off with paint remover/acetone and lightly sand it with a fine grit paper or steel wool. Hit it with a layer or two of primer and then go with a color of your choice. Doesn't have to be special high temp oven paint or anything, despite the temps of the components those temps are at the inside of the microchips in the very cores and buried beneath coolers. The air blowing out of the case is the temp that the case will be exposed to, aka slightly higher than ambient. How well the paint turns out depends on the paint and skills involved, whether or not you lightly wet sand with fine grit in between coats, how many coats and so on. Preferably in a dust free environment void of wind and enough skill to prevent 'orange peeling' (small micro bumps in the paint texture resembling orange rind).

It may sound like a pain stripping the factory paint but it will coat easier with white especially if it's currently black. That way the black doesn't keep bleeding through and you don't end up with paint + primer + paint potentially building up in areas where fitment could be an issue (where the side panels fit etc).

For the cooler, I'd consider painting just the top plate that shows, not the fins themselves. The solid top plate that shows at the outermost part of the cooler viewed through a window doesn't really contribute to the cooling capacity and won't make any difference.

Just my .02 on it.

It might be worth doing some reading on case modding, places like mnpctech, modders inc. etc. Here's a quick start guide to case painting by Dewayne Carel who's done some really extensive mods.

He did this fallout 3 case mod and this tuf hummer mod among others.

Na i already planned on stripping everything down to the base metal and doing 2 coats of primer then about 5-7 coats on the case of paint. For the CPU cooler i was gonna do a push-pull config with 2 white fans, and just paint the top where no air is being pushed cause thats the only part people see is the top. For the GPU i was going to do red or white on the backplate then the opposite color on the cooler.

@-HH- I just don't have enough money to shell out 169.99 for the case that will support everything i need. And i wouldnt really consider my case low end in my opinion. It cost me 99.99 at the time with a 13.99 shipping tag.
Also i'm disabled and have nerve damage in my back asiding with my epilepsy so i don't really get out to much. So i figured a small little hobby/project would be fun. 30ish dollars and self accomplishment vs 169.99 and no accomplishment seems like a better deal in my opinion. Sure i bought my cause, but in the end im perfecting it to how i want it. And that is worth more to me then a case anyone can just go out and buy.
