SAS 12Gb/s speed using existing 6gbs SATA drives?

Am I understanding this correctly? Gigabyte MW70-3S0

''SAS 12Gb/s Storage:
With an onboard LSI SAS 3008 controller, the MW70-3S0 supports up to 8 SAS drives running at 12Gb/s via two mini-SAS HD connectors. In addition to its ultra fast transfer rates, this controller is also capable of aggregating any SATA and SAS drives into a single 12Gb/s data stream thanks to the LSI DataBolt technology. Users can therefore enjoy a 12Gb/s speed while using lower grade 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s drives. This can bring a significant upgrade to a system without having to invest in new and expensive 12Gb/s SAS drives. ''

I see. Aggregating. Are there PCI-e cards I can purchase with this controller and LSI Databolt technology. I have about 6 Barracude XT 2TB drives and I do a lot of 4K editing. This protocol would be a wonderful solution instead of purchasing a new board.

I don't think that it's saying as much as you think it is. You can put four 3 GB/s drives and run all four of them at full speed at the same time, but that's 4 independent 3Gb/s streams. The total bandwidth on the channel is 12 GB/s, but you are not getting that for any one use.

Hey. But wouldn't that be misleading to buyers? But isn't that like saying with two slots of traditional SATA3 6gbs people will be performing a total of 12gbs combined as your PC uses two slots.'' Are they specifically insinuating RAID configurations to the buyer? So what would be the advantage or benefit from their board stating using traditional drives? Are they merely just stating that they can be ''used?!'':pt1cable:

You should see what speed you are getting with something like Crystal Disk Mark. Then get out a stop watch and see also what you are getting for large data movement. How long does it take to move 10 gigabytes, 20 gigabytes, 30 gigabytes, 40 gigabytes, 50 gigabytes. How long for one big file, or 50 gigabytes of a bunch of documents. HDD drives are good, but SSD is rated faster. Is it the same as the auto benchmark program? Find out. You should use all of the same hard drives in a raid, but you do not have to. It is up to you what you do. As long as your system is in good cosmetic condition, it will not be seen as trash. Further, it depends on the computer you are using, and other variables. My projection is if you actually can sustain 12 Gb/s speeds, and random 12 Gb/s speeds with only 6 Gb/s drives, how many of them would you have to use. I myself have no more room. I have a lot of drives. More than you can count with all ten of your fingers.
