Is the intel q8400 quad core still good for gaming?

I already have an i5 4590, this question is just out of curiosity. Would the q8400 quad core be decent for gaming pc on a low budget, and if so, would it be better than the pentium G3258? I know dual-core is still fine for gaming, but for upcoming releases like doom 4, it looks like it's almost necessary to have a quad core.

Speaking from personal experience, the q8400 is still barely acceptable for today's games. But that's only if you already own a machine with a q8400 - there is no reason to go out and get one; if you are paying money, go with the Pentium.

I've got a second machine with a Q9550 with a modest overclock, and it has not failed to provide a decent experience with any game yet. But make no mistake, I'm talking about the game being playable and enjoyable, not getting 60 FPS at ultra settings.
