I'm was going to buy a new ssd and remembered my mobo has a mpcie combo thing (can't quite recall it's actual name)
I was thinking I should get a m.2 ssd from Samsung but read from a few sources that my motherboards m.2 capabilities don't work too well.
Is there anybody here that will shed some light on whether the maximus vi extremes m.2 capabilities should be used rather than a regular ssd?
Thanks.

Solution
It would appear that M2 is going to be a lot more popular with Z170 than it was with Z97. I'd stop worrying about the interface and just look at the benchmarks. I'll note that we have testbeds (desktop and laptop) here where I can have peeps boot, work, play games off SSD, SSHD and HD.... Some notice if they get switched from SSD to HD.... none notice the switch from SSD to SSHD. So from a bragging standpoint, faster is better... from a user standpoint, I don't think anyone will notice.

When it's 0.8 or 1.2 seconds, we can't tell
When it's 8 versus 12 seconds, we're distracted after 3 seconds and don't notice :)

Very helpful. Thank you, but I'm only using one 980 ti so correct me if I'm wrong but pci lanes won't be a problem.
All I'm asking is when comparing the Samsung evo 250 against its m.2 counterpart, is the m.2 the way to go and if it is, should I be concerned with the things I read about my particular motherboards m.2 capabilities?? I think it all boils down to figuring out if this mpcie wifi bluetooth m.2 combo card is worth using over a regular old ssd.

So, I should probably go with a traditional ssd with my sights on future sli possibilities.
Don't wanna waste those pci lanes since you say the difference in speeds are minimal.
I'm going to leave this thread up a little longer incase someone else has anything to say before I mark your solution.

Thanks!
