so basically i want to know if it would be worth going through the trouble of selling my r9 270x on ebay to buy a r9 290x and spending more money on top of what i get back from my old gpu or would it be easier to buy another r9 270x (only spending 110$) on a used one and cross-firing them. is there a difference in performance..... preferably i would rather cross fire them but i want more opinions

I would honestly just use that extra money to get the single, better GPU.
Crossfire and SLI can be finicky. Single GPU setups are less complicated and usually work better, but opinions vary on this subject. In either case your power supply would need to be evaluated. You'll be needing around 650-750 watts... more if you plan to overclock anything.

2 cards not always scaling in a way you'd wish too. If it was 280 or 280x then I'd say buy an other because 2 of those would outperform 1 290x, but in your case I'd buy 290x. Make sure when u buy it, go for the aftermarket coolers version. My 290's are refferences and man they're loud as fuck and 2 of thoose can generate some heat. :D
