WD Black at 100% after taking drive out and putting back in

First off, I run Windows from a 64 GB SSD and store games, videos and large programs on my 1tb WD black. So...I needed to install Windows onto a new SSD I bought for my laptop. I needed to unplug my WD black 1TB from my mobo since I only had two SATA cables with me. The computer was of course off when I did this! I started up and installed windows to the new drive. Then shut down and plugged my WD Black back in.

Since then, it's been at "100% usage" in task manager. Interestingly though, it says 0 for the read and write speeds. This made me think, "oh maybe it's just saying it's at 100% but it's really fine". Well I booted up planetside 2 and started playing. I noticed a big difference in loading and even lag when traversing the map.

Any help? Did I screw up the drive when I left it unplugged for like, 10 minutes?

I highly doubt any damage would happen to the drive if you powered your system off right then removed it.
Now if you added say a new hard drive or ssd drive with a clean windows install on it.
And the WD drive is showing 100% usage in windows.

it would point to a slighty damaged sata cable, or the fact that it is not fully seated in the sata port connection of the motherboard, or where the sata cable connects to your WD drive so have a check. or replace the current sata cable with a new one.

The other thing to check is that the same drive letter the WD drive was set to before the shutdown and fresh install of windows still has the same drive letter assignment.
If it differs or you notice that any other device that is connected to your...

The other thing to check is that the same drive letter the WD drive was set to before the shutdown and fresh install of windows still has the same drive letter assignment.
If it differs or you notice that any other device that is connected to your system does not show like for example a cd/dvd re writer drive then the cause is a hardware clash or drive letter assignment clash.

In such a case you would use drive manager of windows to pull a drive list of all the drives connected to your motherboard.
And amend the drive letter assignment if it was changed due to the new windows install back to the prior drive letter it was set at with the old version of windows you had it running under ok.

This can happen when you add a new drive to the existing drives in your system.
The drive letters can shift or be re assigned by one windows install to another, and cause a drive letter clash that is why you make sure and count that all drives are shown by windows, if one has disappeared, then the result is a drive letter assignment clash and the cause of the drive showing 100% utilization by your os.

Hey thanks for fast response. I'll check my cables and connections and get back with you. The drive I installed to was D and my WD is W so I hope it's just a cable mashup

okay. So here's what I did.

turned off and disconnected WD drive
powwered on and booted into windows

turned off and reconnected WD Drive else where (Put SSD where WD was)
turned on and the drive was recognized and worked great

turned off and put WD back where it originally was
turned on and problem returned

turned off and put WD's SATA cable into SATA02 (was in SATA03)
turned on and is working great

Maybe my motherboard is acting up IDK. all I know is it's working now after all of that.

EDIT: No it's not fine. it said low percentage disk usage until I tried to open Planetside. now it's stuck at 100% and is taking forever to load.

EDIT AGAIN: it's IS working fine. It's like it took it some time to get re-acclimated with Windows....maybe Windows was re-finding all the paths for the programs on that disk that "dissappeared" when I unplugged the drive or something. Only explanation I can think of
