Upgrade time - a GPU that'll last 5 years and play nice with DX12 at 1080p

Hi

The time has come for an upgrade from my GTX 680 (which is fine, so maybe not an upgrade)...

What I tend to do is only upgrade my computer once every 5 years or so, so I like to get good stuff that will do me for that length of time.

My computer is hooked up to my TV (1080p) and I have no plans to upgrade my TV, so let's assume I'll use it at 1080p.

I've heard NVIDIA cards lack something that DX12 has, so that's concerns me a little, but I know the NVIDIA cards are more efficient and usually perform better.

I think I'm swinging towards the GTX 980. Any thoughts?

I just would like it to be "future proof" (5 years worth). Will my 680 last for the next 5 years?

But if it lacks these so called few dx12 features does it really make things suck...of course not so the AMD is still good. Its like someone loosing one eye, does that person have to give up on life eventhough one eye is still left and the ears are still there to help with sense....?

When it comes to amd vs nvidia the points given are honestly not really viable enough to show nvidia is top notch...

Well maybe during december or possibly before there might be deals on these GPUs. Go for the 980 or AMDs r9 fury if you dont mind that expense. Stepped down to 970 or r9 390x if too expensive
