New CPU not working correctly - unsupported motherboard

I decided to upgrade my CPU from an old quad core CPU to a newer FX-8320 8 core processor. Before I did that, I checked my motherboard and it said AM3+ compatible so I figured no problem. After I installed it in my system, it wouldn't boot at all. A bit deeper research found that my Asrock 890GX Extreme 3 only supports 6 core not 8 core in its list of supported CPUs. Regardless, I updated the bios with my old CPU and put the new one back in after reading online about a few people doing it anyway. It has now booted fine and works, it recognizes all 8 processors no problem.

But I am having performance issues. Mainly, the whole system will occasionally completely freeze (no response from keyboard/mouse, but display still visible) and sometimes that will trigger the speakers letting out a loud static noise. Only fix is to restart. This has pretty much only happened when I am streaming videos (youtube or facebook tested so far) or once I suspect when a website had too many flash video ads running on the sidebars so it crashed. Running media through VLC or media player (or both at the same time) works fine. It is not a heat problem, CPU is running around 30C. I just downloaded gputemp and it says my GPU is running at 40-50C so should be ok. (I have 2x Radeon 6800)

I know I'm not going to get perfect use from the CPU without a better mobo. Main question is will continuing to run this damage the CPU? If so I will stop straight away. If not I might persist.

Are there any other fixes I could try? I am just about to update to the newest Catalyst GPU drivers and see if that helps.

I will need a new mobo at some point, but unfortunately I am both cash and time poor at the moment so I wanted to hold off if possible.

I guess you have to buy at least a decent 970 mobo. It might be the old SB and NB of the old 890 chipset cant handle much of the 8320. But about freezing issues, do try uninstalling the GPU drivers via DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and reinstall the proprietary drivers for the GPU again and see if it fixes the problem. Do not update yet.
