What do you guys think of these choices? I was told the G1 series was not a good series... so, I'm guessing that one's out?

But yeah, this is a sure purchase along side either of the two per-mentioned cards.

Here's my system

That 980Ti is not yet final, so, feel free to suggest. MSI or EVGA preferred.

Thanks everyone.

Never go with NEX. The G2 and P2 are the only 2 I would ever touch.

220-G2-0750-XR and 220-P2-0750-X1

Both are excellent. I have 2x P2 and LOVE both a lot.

The AMD CPU will bottleneck the GTX 980TI and will be slower than a i3 in most games. I would recommend dropping the FX and going for a i5-6600K, i5-4460, or i5-4690k. Even the 8350 or 9590 overclocked to 5.5GHZ would be slower than a stock i5 in all games.

Cool! That's actually what I was looking at. Thanks for the confirmation. I hope they drop the prices.

I researched about that already, and I'll be OC'ing to 4.8ghz. Everyone I asked said there would be no bottleneck. Should be okay, plus... It's not really in my budget right now, as I use it for more than just gaming.

EVGA has been changing up their OEMs and I'm not sure what's going on at this point. The original B1 was not reviewed well and so the B2, G2 and P2 were the ones getting all the recommendations. However, I did notice that the B1, at least in the 650 size went from a 5 year warranty to a 10 and have no way of knowing whether that represents their confidence in a better quality unit or it was just a marketing ploy. Since the change, there have been no published reviews that I have found. In some respects, you have to ask "Do you care ? " since you are basically guaranteed a working PSU for the next 10 years.

Right now, the EVGA B2 at $45 is pretty hard to turn down unless of course you are out to seek that very last few fractions of a GHz OC in which case the G2/P2 would be better choices. I'd also not that the 750 watter is a bit undersized if ya thinking you may at some pointy go SLI. On an air cooled system, 850 will do it if ya don't go too crazy on OCs....if water cooling ir using the Gigabyte 980 Tis, I'd suggest bigger,

I have a G2 1000 watter purchased because it was cheaper than the 750 / 850 on that day and was not too happy w/ it. The fan noise is bothersome and it's not just me as I have seen others w/ same issue on OCN. My current fav is the Seasonic Snow / Silent series.

As to the build.... is this stuff you cobbled together over the years or as currently planned ? rest assumes it's a plan

1. I can't make a case for an AMD based build with a budget over $850.

2. Big no-no on the 2 separate sets of RAM which are not guaranteed to work together. It works mostkly, but if it don't you have no recourse

3. I assume the SSDs / HD are existing either way...if not, I'd do single larger SSD and replace the HD w/ SSHD.

4. Recommend MSI, I'm not a fan of the SC series, the MSI Gaming, Gigabyte G1 and Asus Strix typically use custom PCMs with bigger / beefier VRMs.

5. Read and make sure you understand the implications of the EULA for Win10 ... many find the parts about using your PC as a download server and the "we can collect and distribute" anything they find on your PC disturbing.

To help ya decide, here's the relative value / ranking in order of fps per dollar of the various options:

970 - 3.97
970 SLI - 3.48
980 - 2.63
980 SLI - 2.30
980 Ti - 2.42
980 Ti SLI - 2.11

This is a built system already. I made sure the modules match exactly the same. I am looking at moving to a 32gb set, 4 8gbs or 2 16s, whichever is available. And yes, this build was started back in early November. Pre-planned for the budget I had then.

For the SSDs, you read my mind. I've been seeing a 500gb SSD at the same price I bought these two together. I'm also looking into grabbing a 4TB storage SSHD. But I think that'll be too much of an overhaul... or not. This system isn't really built for just gaming, it's mostly for 3D design, and 2D animation in mind (Graphic and Motion Design), gaming on the side. I do feel the inefficiencies of having 3 separate drives.

4) I've had great experiences with EVGA, so I'm a big fan, and trust their hardware. So, I'll probably stick. But, I have been looking at some MSI 980Ti's. The Lightning looks nice, just not a fan of hard Monotone Green... Will be considered.

5) They can do what they want, not really a privacy nut.

Lastly, no, I won't be going SLI... ever I would think. Don't need to overkill it.

Thanks for the very helpful insights. I'll put all of these into consideration.

I'd love to upgrade to an Intel build... But, I don't really have the budget to buy a new OS. Learned that the hard way... New board == New OS.

Forgot to add, even a budget for a new board. I don't really have the time to put into putting that together and reselling the other parts.

Unless I'll be working through the end of the year, then I'll highly consider it, using most of what I have already, and just selling the semi-old parts.

I'm looking at purchasing a workstation/gaming laptop for travel, and on-the-go work, so I need to cut it short at the 980Ti, and just making everything as efficient as possible with this current build.

I'll keep that deactivation in mind when I do transfer over.
