Hello everyone!

So, I installed Windows 10 a few weeks back. I love it and can't wait until the kinks get worked out.

But for a little over a week, every time I try using Ventrilo to communicate with my friends in World of Warcraft, they hear a heavy static in the background. I have a VIA HD sound chip that is the default on my mobo. I'm also using a Turtle Beach X12.

I have not had this problem at all until about a week ago. Even if I switch my microphone off, the static can be heard when I press the key I have bound to allow others to hear me.

I've tried removing the USB cable from my PC and plugging it directly into an adapter, but no change. I've noticed that the higher I set the quality of my mic, the static gets a lot louder.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? I would greatly appreciate it if you could share it with me! :)

If want a really good (but by comparison cheap) mic, try the blue yeti: http://www.bluemic.com/yeti/
It'll make you sound amazingly clearer. Or there might still be static, because your motherboard's sound chip is bad.

You could try adding a sound card as well if you have the open PCIE slots.
Turn down the Mic Boost in the microphones properties.
Also turn off Auto Volume adjustment in the vent sentings if you can.
You can use Windows Sound Recorder to record yourself and see if you can hear it.

There's another solution as well that I use to hide the sound of my AC with my mic.

Having a better quality microphone can be the solution as well, headset mics are usually garbage.

What I don't get is why the headset works flawlessly on other computers.

I've turned the boost all the way down, and I don't have a volume adjustment set in vent either. I hear the static in Sound Recorder, but it's minimal compared to the way it sounds in the other program.

I'll just get a microphone like you suggested. Thank you for the response. :)
