Hi all,

I'm building a computer for programming and crunching numbers. I am going to use Skylake but I'm not sure what motherboard to get. I will get an NVIDIA card in the future for CUDA. Also I'm planning to use Linux, does anyone know if any of these parts will give me trouble?

Thanks!

Solution
Poor choice of case (Poor airflow, dust collector) and power supply (cheap capacitors).

It's also better to buy a 250GB SSD for 120-130 dollars, since a lot of people don't need more. Combine that with a 1TB or 2TB HDD. It's better.

Also go for DDR4-2800+ or higher. Make use of the high clock speed that you can use with DDR4.

You could probably save yourself some potential headaches by picking a PSU from the tier 2 list on this page http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

I don't have a good handle on Canadian prices, but it all looks ok. You may be better off getting a motherboard with integrated Wi-Fi, and in your case I would be tempted to go with a Mini-ITX build in a Fractal Design Node 304 http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/node-series/node-304-black (unless you're planning on getting several GPU's for CUDA).

For ATX motherboard with WiFi, take a look at http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-DELUXE/

for mini-ITX maybe
ASRock Z170 Gaming-ITX/ac
ASRock Z170M-ITX/ac
GIGABYTE Z170N-Gaming 5
GIGABYTE Z170N-WIFI

For an ATX case I'd take a good hard look at the Fractal Design Define R5 or Define S
