How to be sure heat sink has good contact with processor?

While running a video encoder the temperature of i7-4790K cores rise above 90 degree C. I couldn't believe it. The CPU is running at stock settings (4Ghz) with stock intel heat sink.

Does this imply the heat sink is not properly installed?
Is there a way to verify this without removing the heat sink?
I need to know whether I just need new thermal paste, or a larger heat sink.

Solution
The stock heatsink isn't enough for the i7-4790k, get a good air cooler or water cooler.
Mine did the same with the stock cooler until I put a water cooler on it. Now it's down to 30-34c at "idle" and maxes out at about 75c when encoding.
Tell us what case you have and how much you're willing to spend ($25-70~ for air, $60-120~ for water)
