I am attempting to build my first gaming rig with:
Intel i5-4590
MSI B85M-E45 Mobo
Kingston HyperX Fury Black (2x4GB)
PowerColor Radeon R9 290 4GB TurboDuo Video Card
EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
So now my problem. I have confirmed that the mounted Mobo can POST with the RAM installed. Well, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the fans runs for a few seconds and then turn off for a few seconds and then come back on for a few seconds, etc etc etc. Sometimes the fans can be continuously running, yet nothing comes up on the monitor.
When the video card is installed and connected to the PSU, it goes right back to the continued on/off of the system.
Since it kept doing this, I thought that maybe it just needed a driver upgrade, so I got to the BIOS screen and then put a flash drive in. The system immediately shut down.
I have also tried unplugging the entire system and shorting the jumper, which seemed to fix it for a little while, but would still have the on/off issue once the video card was installed.
Any ideas? I feel like I've been banging my head against a wall for the last three hours.
EDIT NOTE: When the motherboard is out of the case, everything seems to work fine. Also, as an aside, I built this system using a community on reddit called r/BuildAPC as well as pcpartpicker.com. PC Part Picker said that the whole system only requires 430W.
UPDATE 2: Based on feedback, I'm getting a EVGA SuperNOVA 650W GS and returning the 550W, so hopefully that works!
