I have a 290X on a 600W PSU and I sometimes overclock it (I can click on a pre-set oc if I feel the need for a bit more performance). I also have a meter to check power consumption, the highest power input into my PSU that I've seen was just under 500W, my CPU is an i5 4590.

ok well i have an SSD 2 HDD's 16GB ram (4x4GB 2400Mhz OC) a 4690K (overclocked to 4.4Ghz) MSI z87M gaming 4 fans total a gigabyte windforce 280X (overclocked 15+ core and 65+mhz memory) and a wall wattage counter says i pull pretty damn close to 600W (but thats with 2 monitors) i dont want to go out and buy a card and then find that it killed all my parts or blew my PSU.
