Hey Community, I am putting together a build from a few old parts and a couple new ones. I am wanting to put together a build capable of rendering, 3D modeling, other various artist programs and movie watching for the wife all in 4K.

Here's what I have so far:

Xeon E3-1271 v3
EVGA Superclocked ACX GTX 780 3GB
ASUS Xonar DX 7.1
Crucial Ballistics Tactical 4x8GB 1600
Samsung 850 250GB
WD Black 2TB
SeaSonic SS-760XP2

So, I am looking for a Micro ATX board that is well built (VRM/NB/SB cooling solutions, good vrm's, +fan headers, quality capacitors, etc..) and have no problem picking up a z97 board that I don't need if it's better quality than it's h97 counterpart. I would like wireless AC if possible, but if not a board that won't prevent installing a wireless AC card and a sound card if the GPU is installed.

Thanks for your time everyone!

4k is a bit too much to ask out of a single 780. Even twin 980 Tis struggle to do 4k at 60 fps.

I don't think I have ever seen a H97 based 4k build.... just about all make an allowance for future upgrade to SLI even if not starting with it from the getgo. With that in mind, I think a MicroATX case **may** be a bit limiting unless you install in an excellent case

The MSI Z97M Gaming and Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 are two of the most popular and highest rated (by users) Micro ATX board on newegg w/ SLI capability. The MSI Z97M-G43 is another one to consider.

I'd put it in something like this to keep the GFX you'll need for 4k nice and cool

Thanks for the responses, I will look into each of them. This build is not for gaming just rendering and 3D modeling mostly with some movie viewing thrown in. I already had the GPU,HDD,RAM, and Soundcard laying around from a previous build, as well as a few CPU coolers to choose from. The Xeon I just bought for $150 used with a receipt dated 07/29/15. I already tested it, so no worries. Picked up the SSD/PSU new last week. The case is custom built with PSU and HDD/SSD's in their own compartments separate from the motherboard completely and 7 Noctua fans, so cooling shouldn't be a problem as it had my FX8350 with two 280X's in it before and ran super cool. I appreciate the responses, and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the ASUS Gryphon Z97? My Sabertooth has been amazing, so I was curious about the Gryphon.

Why do you want a Micro ATX board? A bigger ATX will have more options to upgrade and unless your case is not too small, it will most probably better cooling heatsinks onboard. I was looking at best quality 1150 socket board too and found ASRock Z97 Extreme6. Its basically the Extreme9 without Four-Sli option. The build quality is at highest possible. Look for reviews. And I am using it with a Xeon 1230v3.

Rendering generally screams Quadro .... While AutoCAD 2D / 3D and such run best on GTX cards, rendering as in Maya is much better on a Quadro, and for Solidworks, GTX / R9 is not an option. Rendering is time consuming, sucks power like crazy and generates heat ... one reason why iTX may be asking too much.

Which Sabertooth ? .... the Z77 era Sabertooths were an amazing leap forward and while, in general, the boards have performed well, they are not the "standouts" they used to be. However it remains the model line from Asus that I have the most confidence in The quality of the Extreme, T=Rampage, Formula etc going in the toilet per newegg user reviews with many in the 33% - 35% range for those extremely negative 1 egg reviews.

The Gryphon garners 18% highly negative (1 egg) user reviews on newegg.... that's about half the amount of many of the other boards listed above but still not up with the market leaders. The Impact is in about the same area. But negative ratings are quite common on iTX boards all are pretty much up therein the high teens or worse with % of negative reviews. The MSI Z97M Gaming Micro ATX board recommended above just breaks into double digits at 10%.
