Would it be safe to use this mobo, or should I upgrade?

Hello, I recently purchased a computer from craigslist, was built from cyberpower. Anyways it runs fine and all, but I plan on upgrading it. These are my specs:

i7 4770
Gtx 660
This Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130703
500gb hard drive
8gb ram
Windows 7 Proffessional
CFI Borealight Orange Full tower Case w/ extra case fans (possibly 1 broken, and heatsink defunctional but I can replace those)
600 watt psu (It's really bad, I plan on upgrading to a 750 watt EVGA G2 psu)

Anyways, I have no problem with the features of the mobo, other than (I am probably wrong on this) it only has 2 x sata 3gb/s and 2 x sata 6gb/s things, I think those are where my optical drive and fan controller are also plugged in (I don't mind taking it out tho, it doesn't seem to work well) and my 500gb hard drive. I plan to upgrade the storage later on but as of now thats not the question.

I want to upgrade the gpu, I know my psu will support everything but I am not sure if this mobo will be able to support a gtx 970 or a r9 390. It is really cheap and what not, not sure if I can trust putting a 300 dollar graphics card in there. I don't care if the mobo cant/can (people say it can, people say it can't) overclock , as the cpu is unoverclockable, but I might try overclocking the gpu a bit, as it seems a lot easier anyways. If not It doesn't bother me too much.

So should I wait to upgrade the mobo before the gpu, or should I be ok with it?

I plan to upgrade this way= psu-fans-storage-gpu-mobo-ram . and my peripherals all need upgraded. (g100s mouse, razer deathstalker keyboard, and some 40 dollar headset from walmart) . I really want the k70 rgb, and some customizable lighting on my other things too, and my tv should be replaced with a good monintor.
