Hi, I'm trying to build a new computer for personal use (light gaming, Photoshop, video editing, 3D, etc). I have a stronger system for heavier work load, but I also want to have a personal one that can do some decent graphic works while being able to play games here and there (Assassin's Creed 4 over 30fps Med-High settings anyone?_. The main point is to keep the budget under $700. I have very little experience with AMD system so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my build:

The FX6350 is a higher bin version of the FX6300, you would be wasting your money on it unless they are within $5-10 of each other. You can OC a 6300 to 4.5ghz easily with the evo 212. There is no future upgrade path to the 860k, it's a FM2+ that is only slightly rivaled by the A10-7870K APU. The 860k is NOT by any means a better choice than a FX6300 or 6350 as the FX has over 3 times the l2+l3 cache that the 860k does and can be overclocked to laugh at the 860k's single core performance. The multiple cores on the FX will give you a better advantage over the 860K as well in photo/video/3d editing programs. I am not saying this to refute anyone's "facts," it's simply the truth, I have been doing this since 1989 and build at least a dozen...

Its a nice build especially the motherboard. PCPartpicker.com says they aren't sure wether your cpu cooler will fit inside the case but don't worry your case is atx so it should be fine. only thing I would suggest is a better gpu because you still have $50 more to spend, although if assassins creed 4 is the only game you will be playing then you should be fine (according to gamedebate, with your current specs you should be able to run the game at high) but incase you do plan on playing other games (games a bit heavier than AC4) then I would recommend getting a better gpu.

#1 don't ever use cpuboss/gpuboss, #2 it will bottleneck on games like gta v, it's only as good/better when you overclock it, but you need an aftermarket cooler for that, plus it has much more power consumption, all that for "slightly" better performance... #3 you have upgrade path to an i7 #4 Intel>AMD (ATM anyway, don't know what to expect from Zen CPUs, I'm an AMD fanboy in terms of gpus, in terms of cpu im a fan when it comes to low tier cpus like the x4 860k...) have I missed anyhing?

TO OP: if you really want an amd cpu build than take this:

x4 860k will perform same/better than the fx 6300 with only 4 cores...

although, again I disagree with most of your points, you are absolutely right about the upgrade path. Funny thing is I'm kinda opposite cuz I'm an intel and NVidia fanboy but I really like some amd cpu's such as the phenom x4 and x6 series and ofcourse the 8350

First off, thank you all for the tremendous help =)

So at this point the option for me seem to be either going with the fx-6350 or the x4 860k. I would ideally like to overclock a little (I'm not too adventurous), and I've heard that AMDs tend to run pretty hot. Should I introduce better CPU coolers? The x4 860k seems ridiculously cheaper but what are some of its drawback in terms of future upgrades?

I am not saying this to refute anyone's "facts," it's simply the truth, I have been doing this since 1989 and build at least a dozen systems a month. Both am3+ and fm2+ CPU/APU's will likely be discontinued due to the new AM4 Zens coming out next year.

Edit: If price is your concern, go with the Pentium G3258 and a Z97 board over a 860K, much higher upgrade potential with the LGA1150 socket.
