Antenna related question: Can i use wifi yagi 2.4ghz antenna for 3g/ cdma usb modem?

Hello

Just as title says, can i use wifi yagi antenna for usb 3g/ cdma modem to increase its signal strength and download/upload speed?
I saw in many sites that 3g yagi and wifi yagi antenna looks almost the same from outside. I know a little about their operating frequencyies, 3g works on 1800 mhz something and cdma on 800mhz somewhat, so just asking casually, can it improve my network strength?

You might say why can't i just buy new antenna for 3g modem, well i want to but i have one spare wifi antenna, So i wanna test it out first before buying anything else, all i need to buy is CRC9 to RP SMA.

Only if the antenna works on the correct frequencies and you would have to be very lucky. A antenna designed to run on 2.4g would not work well on 800mhz. These antenna are designed to reject signals outside their designed frequencies. The antenna commonly used on mobile broadband because of the large frequency range is called a log-periodic and even these there are different models to favor certain bands.

The other issue you have is it tends to be illegal because unlike wireless these are licensed frequencies and only the licensed holder can make alterations. What exactly you can do is hard to say since some cell companies actually sell antenna.

Thanks man, your answer completely satisfied me, i can now go and buy yagi antenna specially designed to work with 800mhz.
