Hello guys, this is my first post at tom's and i hope that any of you could provide me with some guidance, im not a very techy guy in general, just a heads up :)

ok so my issue is that i just recently bought a new PC, my dad help'd me custom built putting in the mobo, cpu and all that. now the pc crashed after 2-3 days of use, i made sure that none of the temps were anywhere close to the safe temps thats put on the site for each component just to make sure that overheating isn't the issue.

the crash left the pc completely dead, whenever i use the power on switch from the front panel, nothing turns on, not the fans not the psu or any other component, however the LED lighting from the motherboard is on.

I have confirmed that its not the PSU thats the issue, i put in the other 1 had in spare and gave me the same result, so what im afraid of it being either the motherboard or the CPU thats completely dead.

heres my specs in case it helps you troubleshoot

CPU - i7 6700k
CPU Cooler - Noctua DH-15
PSU - Cooler master G650M
Mobo - MSI Krait gaming Z170A
Ram - Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 2400mhz
GPU - Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970

I tried jumping the Cmos and also jumping the Power switch pin just in case
also tried to replace the PSU with my old corsair TX750 watts
and same result.

so my question is do u guys have any clue as to what might be wrong, and also how in the world am i gonna find out which component it is besides from the PSU, i dont have own any hardware thats compatible with the new i just bought for this machine, i dont have a CPU that fits the new 1151 socket nor do i have a motherboard with that same socket in spare. so is there a way i can check if its the CPU at fault or the motherboard?

Thanks in advance for taking your time to read this, lets hope i can find a solution, the pc is something i have been extremely excited for, for a long time and as a gamer its very sad to see such an expensive piece of machinery die within 3 days of running absolutely perfect and just crash all of a sudden like that.

You could use the box the motherboard came in,a flat folded towel would work too. It's up to you to try it,just to see if what you suspect is true.If that's the case could you rma both, see which one comes back as okay.Maybe both will be replaced.

i just tried without using the GPU, and nothing changed

for breadboarding should i just use my motherboard case to place my motherboard on?
anyhow from what i read breadboarding is for testing system prior to building them into your case. in my case it worked just fine, i have isolated the issue to the motherboard or the CPU, now the issue is how do troubleshoot that? even if i beadboard it from my logical perspective, the CPU wont work if the motherboard is dead, however the motherboard wont react to anything if the CPU is dead, so what ever i try it wont react to anything.
