Front Headphone jack not working

Sorry for asking - this question has been asked a million times - I've been reading through them and can't figure this out.
I am using Win 10 64, I just put an ASUS Xonar DG sound card in my computer - everything works besides the front headphone jack (the jack worked with on board sound before the sound card).
When I plug in headphones nothing happens (usually my main speakers would go silent) and the headphones get no sound.
This was my first experience with a sound card so I'm not sure if its hooked up right - I took the HDAUDIO (case plug) that was plugged into the mobo's front audio header and put it in the plug marked "front panel" on the sound card. The AC 97 audio is not plugged in. Thanks for the help
