I have a ssd and a hdd that i want to use. Currently I dont care about any of the data on either, i have already reformatted both multiple times at this point. I dont know where to put the cables to connect the hard drives to the motherboard, theres like 8 possible places to place them. I am getting incredibly frustrated with my pc at this point, and would really reeaaally appreciate some help. Thanks

As per your motherboard manual (pg. 25 & 26), SATA3_0 and SATA3_1 are the faster 6Gb/s headers you want for the SSD.
SATA2_2 thru _5 are the slower 3Gb/s headers best suited for slower devices like the HDD. All are controlled by the Intel Z68 chipset and the preferable ones to use.

You also have a 3rd party chipset, the Marvell 88SE9172. SATA3_ 6 and SATA3_7 are controlled by it. They are also SATA3 headers but not quite as fast as the SATA3 headers controlled by the Z68 chipset.

I would connect my SSD to one of the SATA3_0 or _1 headers, and my HDD/DVD to one of the SATA2 headers. Leave the Marvel controlled headers empty until you have more than 2 x SATA3 devices.

Normally, it doesn't matter. Most times we use one of the SATA2 headers because the DVD drive is so slow, it can't even saturate SATA1. I had a Gigabyte Z-68 board once that refused to allow the DVD drive to be used as boot device unless I plugged it into a certain header. I can't remember which header that was anymore, but I suspect it was one of the SATA2s. Just something to keep in mind if the drive works but can't be recognized as a boot device.
