I'll dive right into it...

I purchased the Asus AC68P but I'm starting to have my doubts. After further researching it seems the AC68U although being an older version, still seems to be the more popular of the two (AC68P).

So, I'm wondering what do you guys recommend between the AC68P (the U version isn't sold locally) and netgear R7000, which is a better buy?

Any insight would be great! Thank you in advance.

You need to look at the software features unless you plan to replace the firmware with third party.

The difference between the 68u and the r7000 is the r7000 uses a faster cpu clock speed. They use identical radio chips. I have not dug thought he FCC reports but it is said the 68p users the identical cpu chip as the r7000 now so the devices now use identical hardware for the critical functions.

The main difference are going to be in the software features not so much in the performance of the device. You would also have to look at how good the customer support is but for large brand names you generally don't see a lot of difference.
