Good cpu with r9 280x

Hi
Im building my first game pc i bought a r9 280x vapor x for 150 euro
I now need a good cpu to go with it without a causing any bottleneck
It doesn't have to be too powerful as long as it can play modern titles at good fps
Preferably no overclocking since i'm a noob in that area and afraid that i will f*ck something up And fry my cpu

how much can you spend on the cpu and will you need a motherboard? if not what motherboard do you have so we can match the socket....also i am in the US so before i research it for you would the prices on uk.pcpartpicker.com be accurate for your area? i never learned the difference in European currency my apologies.

an i3 or an fx8 core with an overclock. since you are not comfortable with overclocking then just get an i3-4160(4150/4170) or an i5-4460 if you can afford it. a basic h97 motherboard will also be more than fine.

if overclocking isn't in the mix then the fx cores are not a good option since they need to be overclocked to 4.4ghz to make up for lost ipc vs intel. i could see some argument for fx if there are non gaming performance needs though.

i would not suggest an i3 for gaming you can save money if only doing a hyperthread dual core and get an athlon 860k...... the i3 is about 8% performance increase but the athlon is around half the price

my son plays days at mid settings with a core 2 duo dual core and gt430 gpu....... i think you will be fine with that q6600 and r9 280x as they are about double the performance of his
