Now I know that some laptops you cant change the processor and all that but does anyone know how I can know if my laptop can let me change my processor and I have an intel core i5-421OU 1.7 GHz with turbo boost up to 2.7 Ghz and I want to change to Intel Core i5-4590 BX80646I54590 Processor (6M Cache, 3.3 GHz) so my first question is, is the change from 2.7 Ghz to 3.3 GHz noticeable and is it worth it and is my laptop compatible with the other intel core i5 version. THX SO MUCH in advanced I'm new to computers and want to get not a serious gaming laptop just so I can run my steam games faster thx in advanced

start with gogoleing the model of your laptop and the word systemboard to find the service part number and photos of it. if you can find it try finding service parts for the laptop and see if the system board is used in more then one laptop. if it is you may be able to use a faster cpu. some mb the laptop system board has the cpu chip fixed to the mb and cant be replaced. with the cpu replacment make sure it the same speed and wattage as the old one.

You have an ultra low voltage mobile chip that is soldered to the motherboard, so you can't change it out. The i5 4590 is a desktop CPU, and won't work on a laptop, even if you had a laptop that didn't have a soldered CPU.
If you need more performance, you pretty much need to buy a better laptop, preferably something that isn't an ultrathin with a ULV CPU designed to save on power and reduce heat output rather than give high performance.
