Hello i use mezon (wimax) technology with my router swc5200w and i was dissapointed by quality i recieve so i decided to build my own outside antenna http://wimaxvedlys.blogspot.lt/2013/02/double-biquad-35-ghz-wimax-g4-antenna.html . i built the antenna and connected it to my router with TriLan 240 cable. at first try it worked, ofcourse very bad only 600kbit/s so i decided to change connection to other side of router and i havent cought internet .i decided enough experiments lets get back as it was before with original 2 antennas. and my internet also havent worked. i have reseted router to factory default settings and everything started working as it was. So a question: how to adapt my router to outside antenna?

I forget the details of WiMax since they decided to abandon it in the USA. I am pretty sure to get maximum speed you need to run 2 antenna because it runs MiMo.

Building you own antenna tends to not be a very good idea anymore. At microwave frequencies even a simple bad solder connection can make the device unusable. The precision in construction necessary is hard to do by hand. I would look into a pair of what are called Log Periodic antenna. This is not a brand name it is a type of antenna used mostly for cell data because it covers a broad range of frequencies used by the vendors.

They tend to be fairly inexpensive. If wimax works like LTE for mimo you need to offset the antenna at 45 degrees.

Be very careful about...

Be very careful about how much cable you run. LMR240 has huge loss per foot when you are at high frequencies. LMR400 or lmr600 tends to be better but more costly. The optimum method generally is to place the router outside and then run a ethernet cable in so you pretty much have minimal microwave cable. This is not always a option since you have to find a way to keep the router powered and dry outside.

I suspect most your problem was trying to build your own antenna. Commercial antenna work very well for this type of application.

Big thanks for your attention. My router uses 2 little antennas (wimax (m35 their name)) and one in midle wifi. I think my router somehow manages to change hes parameteres itself totaly wrong. Because later it havent worked even with standart configuration. Connection seller told me that some routers have outside antenna mode and i forgot how it is called. Google havent answered. So my question would be:1 is it posible to shut down auto parameter changes (if it is reason of problem) 2.how is called outside antenna mode 3. What about home made antenna politics is it forbiden? I know it mostly depends on suplyer of internet but by other suplyers is it forbiden or not?

How would a router ever know if you had external antenna on it. Maybe you just live close to a cell tower and get good signal compared to living farther away and using larger antenna.

Cell stuff does have the ability to change the level of the signal. It can reduce the transmit power on the radio in your router but it would only reduce it until it you started to get less than the maximum speed. Its not like if will reduce it when it is already getting a weak signal.

I do not know that device. Some I know have multiple antenna connections. The one I was using was a portable hotspot. It would use internal antenna you could not see or it would allow you to use 2 special connectors to mount external antenna. You had to tell it which antennas to use. A different one had external antenna similar to yours and I just changed it and it worked fine. The device had a signal level meter. It went from barely 1 bar to 4 out of 5 with external antenna.

External antenna depends on the laws in the country. In the USA it is technically illegal since cell operates on a licensed frequency but there is a strange exception that says it is ok if you inform your provider. It is almost impossible to understand the official government documents and others do not explain the exception clearly. It is not based on if you build the antenna yourself or not it is based on the effective transmit power.

Like most radio things as long as nobody complains because you are causing interference to them you likely can get away with lots of stuff. You will never actually hurt the provider because they can adjust the power you transmit if they are receiving too much signal. Since you generally use directional antenna to accomplish this the signal beams are very narrow so you run almost no risk.

hi thanks for your attention maybe you will be interested in result. recently i contacted with my provider (mezon.lt) and they said:1. the router have only outside antenna because it dont have inside antenna (they mean those horns with standart config) .2. they dont recomend it to connect to this router 3. outside antenna (my made) is acceptable with swc 9200. well i dont know what to do now.. probably i will try to connect it once more but it shouldnt be better than standart config.
