Hi All,

Picked up an old machine I plan to use for some basic stuff, but it only has 1gb of ram.

I've ran a check and it says the current ram is "Pc2 5300 unbuffered non ecc 1.8v", so I hopped on ebay and found this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4GB-2x2GB-DDR2-667-PC2-5300-5300U-Non-ECC-Unbuffered-Desktop-Memory-RAM-240-pin-/400857068015?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123

Now it says it is "Special Use for AMD" and I have no idea what that means, I thought processor type had no impact on ram. The computer has an intel core 2 duo by the way.

So ... will I be able to use this ram?

Solution
It might work, it's probably DRAM someone took out of a AMD prebuilt computer. Some prebuilts did have components that were made to specific specs so they could tie people into buying upgrades specifically from them, so it could be problematic.

The computer is a "Dell OptiPlex 745 Series (Small Form Factor)" and the crucial memory scan comes up saying the following type is valid:

"DDR PC2-5300 Unbuffered NON_ECC 1.8v 128Meg x 64" which is why I selected that one on ebay, but the advert is claiming AMD use.
