Ok, so I have an older Dell Latitude E6400 that I am in love with and want to "dress it up". I installed a Samsung 850 Evo 120GB SSD which runs much faster (of course) than the old traditional HDD that was in it. Well I discovered it only has SATA II interface which has not seemed to slow it down much BUT I was wondering, if I buy an mSATA SSD and install that I could then use the 2.5" hard drive bay for a large HDD for storage and run the OS off the mSATA SSD. I guess what my concern/question is, will the mSATA SSD run any faster through the mSATA interface vs the 2.5" SSD running through SATA II? My two options are doing the first thing I just asked about with a large 2.5" HDD for storage with the mSATA SSD for OS (preferred method) or keeping the current configuration and buying a hard drive caddy to replace the DVD Drive and install a large 2.5" HDD for storage and just have two 2.5" Hard Drives in the Dell. I do realize the second option would be much cheaper as all I would need to buy is hard drive caddy ($20) and large HDD ($60+) vs the mSATA SSD im looking at for $100 plus a large HDD ($60+) and get to keep my DVD drive if ever needed.

the msata will be sata 2 as well

for most stuff sata 2 will still seem pretty fast on a ssd peaks out somewhere around 250/260 MBs

sata 3 is faster but unless copying files from one sata 3 drive to another its hard to notice the difference from sata 2 in everyday use
