New GTX 750ti SC failing 2-4 minutes in any game.

I just bought a gtx 750ti sc for an old elite hp tower I have. I have run tests with 3 different versions of the game ready driver (1 about a year old from the gpu disc, 1 from about 3 months ago and the current version). The issue is persistent through all 3. After a few minutes in game the video driver fails and recovers and I have to close the game through task manager or the screen goes black and requires a hard reboot.
I have been logging the gpu with GPU-Z and nothing out of the ordinary is happening before it fails (I did notice 3 times that the driver has failed the gpu got to a temp of 59C).
I have messed with in game settings which amounted to the game running a minute or 2 longer but inevitably failing the same way. I have adjusted nvidia control panel settings from adaptive to performance but that didn't do anything.
My next step was going to be reinstalling windows 7(or windows 10 upgrade) I don't know what else to try and fix it.
I could down clock it to test if its the hardware, but i am in experienced in this and have heard mixed things.

Few notes: the gpu i bought was refurbished from amazon
current specs: i5 650 8g ram 350wPSU (this may be the culprit but I read a lot of reviews saying the 750ti is perfect for this type of pre-built machines)

Solution
Yeah your GPU is most likely fine. The power supply probably needs a swap :( Do you have a buddy who could borrow his PSU thats beefier?

Please try using some driver removal software such as Guru3D's Driver Sweeper to completely remove any trace of old display drivers before reinstalling the drivers again.

If that doesn't work, are you able to try this card with this game on another desktop to see if the same happens?

I have used this twice on installations. I don't have any other system to test the card on.

Possibly. And the card you have is the "super clocked" edition meaning its overclocked a good amount from the factory. That makes the power draw higher. Have you tried underclocking it to refrence numbers?. And the PSU 18amp 12v rail could be it too.

ok tried using afterburner. Down clocked it to 1000MHZ. Same problem no change. Tried even lower to 900 and same problem persists. does that mean its not the GPU that is the problem?

So got a new power supply. same problem is occurring, but the game is lasting longer than before, 5-6 minutes. Tried down clocking it again and running tests at very low graphics settings, no luck any game crashes.

Have had the exact same problem (mainly on Titanfall and Battlefield Hardline) Have it sitting stable with +120 on GPU clock, +50 on Memory clock and +6 mv on power. It does sit at around 59 - 60C but I think that's problaby O . K . .... Am going to add Arctic Silver 5 on the CPU and GPU over the weekend which should bring temps down a bit better. Hope this helps 8D
Oh and I did uninstall the software with bullguard and re - installed again . All is fine!
