How to Know If PC was Built Properly?

Had a PC built for me today and plan to install Windows onto it tomorrow; how can I make sure it was built properly? As in, is the RAM set to full speed, is the RAM in duel channel how it should be, was the thermal paste set correctly, etc..

Note: guy who built it did boot into BIOS and get to the "accept license agreement" part of installing Windows 7 before I left, but that's it.

I did notice the 7850K APU inside seemed to be a bit loud when he booted it up. Not sure if that's normal or not. Using stock cooler/fan.

Download hwmonitor and check the cpu temps. That will tell whether the thermal paste was done right. I would expect them to do it correctly though. check if the ram is put in the optimal slots. So stick 1 goes into dimm 1 and stick 2 goes into dimm 3 (assuming you have two sticks of ram and 4 ram slots on the mobo).

factory AMD coolers are crap. noisy as hell. i never use them except in an emergency. AMD's heatsink retention scheme hasn't changed much / at all since 10 years ago, so it pays to have one or two AMD-compatible heat sinks around from the good ol' days.

Can I use Speccy(not sure if you know what that is or not) instead of hwmonitor? What temps should I see to know it's normal?

How do I know which is dimm 1/3? My mobo is MSI A78M-E35 and RAM is 2 x 4 GB sticks of EVGA SuperSC(08G-D3-2133-MR), btw.

If it shows you your cpu temps, it should be ok. You will need to download prime95 to put your cpu under load. If it shows 40-70C while prime is running, you should be fine. As a rule of thumb, the lower the better.

Put your ram into in the same coloured slots.

Cool. I'll test tomorrow and get back to you if there are any issues.

What should idle temps be? I saw people reporting like 40-50c at idle, which is why they figured something was wrong with the paste.

Idle temps mean nothing. The real test is when its under load. By the way, run prime for at-least 10 minutes. The temps should suddenly go up to about 50-60C, then slowly inch up for the next 10-20 minutes.
