going from 2nd gen intel to 3rd gen intel.

so i just want to make sure that this is compatible before i buy. i currently have a ECS P67H2-A V.1.1 LGA 1155 P67 motherboard and a core i5 2320 for the cpu but i want to upgrade to a core i7 3770k and i know the socket is the same i just want to know if it would work. i herd some cpu's need a new motherboard even if the socket is the same. any help would be good.

You may need a BIOS upgrade, but you have the old CPU to do it with. All LGA 1155 CPUs will fit in a LGA 1155 socket.

I only see like 5 or so support ivy-bridge cpu's on the CPU link of that page and yours isn't one of them.

But then it says

With ECS, there's no telling, would suggest emailing them and confirm if it does or doesn't (or is supposed to)

The CPU list for that particular mobo doesn't list the CPU in question, nor do individual BIOS updates show where support has been added, so best to check with them. Many manufacturers make claims but don't always follow up and fulfill them
