Hi Guys,

So after may be 2 yrs planning to up-grade my current rig, which pretty much does the job to be honest.

I will give you a small insight on what system i am using now so that you guys can give better feedback as such.

Processor - Amd 8320 ( Not overclocked much )
Mobo - Gigabyte 970a-Ds3p
Gfx - Sapphire R9 280x Oc
Ram- 8Gb (4x2 ) 1600 mhz
SDD - Samsumg 850 Evo 512gb

Now, finally after many months of saving up and endless working i can splurge a bit ( I know its not a huge deal for many to spend 1000$ but i have a lot of other commitments, Emis etc )

So, i have thought of upgrading to a decent gaming rig. Now the problem i face is all the reviews i read and see about claim i5 6600k just marginally ahead of i5 4690k. ( Purely in gaming perspective )

But the issue is am based out in india, and just i5 Processor and mobo is pushing south of 650$.

I know for z170 i would need to put in DDR4 rams as well which is just another added cost, so i have a friend coming down from canada.

And the prices there seem pretty reasonable, so should i save up and get the 4690k or just put up with the added cost and go with 6600k.

Note - wont be upgrading for a while then, only next thing i have planned is a GFX ( 980ti for sure) and a nice 144mhz screen.

The thing is every month i have spent a bit and added some parts, rams, SSDs, power supply (750w gold ) etc

So what should i do guys.

Thanks for reading and if you leave a comment thanks for helping out :) really do appreciate all the advice i can get.

Cool since i have asked for advice i will do with the one you suggested :) placing an order today for asus z97-a and i5 4690k :D since i already have rams, etc wont have to put extra $ for that.

I guess it makes sense if i was completely overhauling my pc then z170 would make sense but since i am using old parts it makes sense to go with lga 1150.

I would go for the i5 4690k, there isn't really much of a CPU performance from what I have read. The i5 4690k has more instruction sets as well as being cheaper. Although DDR4 would be fun and faster I wouldn't really see the point in going for it at the moment.

Ya even i feel the same way, but no matter what i read up on i feel the only + would be the newer chip set and Ram.

I dont know how effective it would be in the future but do you see any massive upgrades it brings to the table any time soon ?

I don't see much of anything on the table soon for i5 6600k but even though the i5 4690k is older it is still a very good CPU. The newer chip would be more power saving as well as be better with the DDR4 but costs more for not that much of a performance difference in CPU side. But isn't the i5 6600k just a series below another one to be released? If so wouldn't it be worth waiting to see the performance differences between the CPU's. I personally am still happy with my i5 2500k, runs nice and cool @4.6Ghz

Hmm, to be honest the only reason i am leaning towards those 3 are due to the fact of the added features, like be audio solution, killer lan etc

What do you say these added features are worth it or not ?

Proofy

Admirable
ASUS has the best features by far compared to other 3 motherboards. From BIOS where you can manually change anything basically to their awesome AISuite III where it will automatically overclock your cpu, adjust fan speeds etc... Also audio is the best on the ASUS motherboard, I'm using it so I can tell from first hand. MSI-Z97-GAMING 5 is also decent but not as good and is lower quality than asus. You can see features from all of the motherboards on YouTube. So pick between MSI-Z97-GAMING 5 and ASUS z97-a depending on which one you like better :)

PS: Killer is just a fancy NIC with irritating software. Never had an issue with my Asus lan, although I hear lots of problems with the killer software. Do some kind of research...

Hmm, thats some great advice thanks a lot man didnt know all that, and i kind checked the price z97-a is even cheaper then rest of these options.

Getting z97-pro in that price range i am assuming its better , do correct me if i am wrong.

And once again thanks for the advice i really do appreciate it.
