Hi ppl!

So i build myself a new computer a while ago, and got hold of some really cheap (read free) components from work. And purchased some myself.

I however realised that the CPU heavily bottlekneck my GPU. So i decided to buy a new CPU.

My current components are as following.

MSI A88X-G45 GAMING A88X
G.SKILL G.skill Ares Low Profile - DDR3 1866 MHz (4x4gb)
XFX 550W 80+ BRONZE CERTIFIED WIRE
AMD AMD Athlon X4 860K 4MB_ 95W_ FM2
INNO3D GTX970 OC 4096MB,PCI-E,2xDVI,HDMI,DP

Im planning on replacing the MOBO and CPU to Intel, and would like some advice on what to get.

My criterias are, being able to run and stream CSGO, LOL, Diablo. I would also like to be able to play any of the new games coming, i also have a habbit of having a movie/youtube running on a second monitor while i game.

I have not decided what my max budget is, but i do like saving money and getting value for my money.

Regards, Thomas

The normal one is more expensive than the K-version? lol

Then go for the K-version for sure even if you dont OC. Cheaper and even higher stock clock rates. :)

For that purpose i would suggest depending on how much you want spend:

i5-6600k
i5-4690k
i5-4460

in that order.

You'll need a new board with the new 1151 socket for the 6600k so thats going to be a bit more pricey while the other two only need the 1150 which should be cheaper to get a good board for.

You'll have to decide yourself. The difference between the first two isnt too big and both have good OCing potential. :)

Edit: You could also try to find older gen. i5 CPUs if you want to safe more but dont downgrade to an i3, because you want that quad core in the games you mentioned and if you want to watch stuff on a second monitor.

Thank you for your answer. I wanted to hear you guys advice before saying what i was thinking about myself. How about the following?

MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 + i5-4460 or i54690

I am however uncertain why i should get anything higher then a i5-4460 if this wont bottlekneck my GPU, wont anything faster just cause my GPU to be the bottlekneck instead then?

Also, you suggested the I5-4690K instead of the I5-4690, why is that? I will not be OC'ing so is there any reason to get the K model ?

Johnny> I currently have a main 1920x1080 monitor + 2x 1600x1200 monitors for guides, video, skype, ventrillo etc.

I am not planning on getting a 4K screen anytime soon.

If you dont OC then you can get the non-K modell. Only difference is that the K modell has slightly higher stock clockrates. And yes, when your CPU serves your GPU enough (which should be the case) the GPU will become the bottleneck but thats totally normal. So the GPU is ALWAYS the bottleneck and it should be.

So it's the 4590 if you want to spend that or the 4460 if you want to safe a bit.

If the difference isnt too big like 10-20$ go for the 4690.
If you dont plan on any OC you dont want to miss that extra 300Mhz. :)

Ah okay, something has to be the bottlekneck i suppose, what about the streaming part then?, will the 4590 give me any big improvements over the 4460? (if its only a 20$ i wont even bother considering the smaller one)

What about the Mobo i send, any comments or is it okay?

Motherboard looks fine and supports everything you got/will get.

Well the improvement isnt THAT big but you'll maybe notice it, because you're running 3 screens at the same time so i'd get the 4690 to make sure that the CPU still has enough power to run games fine while watching streams and stuff.

The difference here is about 30€

For me the 30€ extra are worth the additional 300Mhz clock rate but thats just my opinion. :)

The 4590 and 4690 are very good cpu you will also need a new board to go with that cpu and You shouldn't have a bottleneck The K is for unlocked on the above 2 chips they allow you to over clock.
I want to point out that the skylake cpus will require a more exspesive board as well because the fact there newer chips from intel also the chips themselves will cost a little more also best stick with the I 5 models if your trying to save a few bucks.

Okay, so i just checked my local prices.

And the i5-4690 is a bit more expensive then the i5-4690K

So currently i have to decide between the

i5-4460
i5-4590
i5-4690K

Any final advice i need to consider before deciding what to get?

Thanks ALOT for your help by the way :)

Yeah no doubt about that :) , what i am unsure about is the reason to go higher then a 4460 or 4590.

Will i get any noticable benefits from that? my GPU will be the bottleneck in both cases

The 4460 is almost 70$ cheaper then the 4690K
And 4590 is 45$ cheaper.

Forgive me my questions :) , but im having a hard time understanding what advantages i would get from a 4690K (I wont be OC'ing, and i dont care much for higher speeds if! i wont notice it anyway)

The 4690 (non K) is around 5% faster overall than the 4590. The difference is pretty small and you will be fine with the 4590 too for sure and about 15-20% faster than the 4460. So keep in mind that the K-version will be a few % faster.

I'll say it like that: I personally would go either for the 4590 if you want to safe a bit or for the 4690 if you're free to spend what you want.
Both are good CPUs K-version or non K-version. And everything will work with both CPUs.

Final conclusion: 4590 is fast and safes you money. Go for that one. :)
(if there is a K-version for the same price go for that one)
