Can I start and test a motherboard and CPU without a heatsink?

Hi,

I have just received my motherboard, cpu and all other components except the cpu cooler (Hyper TX3 Evo). I do not have a stock cpu cooler, because I bought the cpu second hand.

I want to check whether my cpu and motherboard are working. So can I just start the motherboard to see if the bios comes up. Will my CPU be harmed if I turn on the machine for like 30 seconds to test if it works, without any heatsink?

Thanks very much!

Do you have an old heatsink laying around? even if its not compatable just hold it and push it down on the cpu to make sure it posts then turn it off and wait for you cooler. if you don't have a case use something conductive (Like a screw driver) and touch the power pins on the motherboard to get it to start. Shouldn't there be the stock cooler in the box you can just use for a little bit? Or do you have skylake/haswell E. But never use a computer with no heatsink. Computers run so hot now days that it probably wouldn't even post before it reaches its thermal limit.

No I dont have any heatsink laying around. Also, I bought the cpu second hand, and no stock cooler was included.
I guess I will just wait for my Hyper TX3 evo to arrive and then test it. Thanks very much.
