Title says it all. I'd rather not invest in a capture card if I don't have to. Is there a way I can connect my xbox 360 to my pc then use a screen capturing program to record what I'm doing on my xbox? I don't mean an emulator.

I guess you could call it connecting the xbox and pc to the same screen (kind of like a capture card but bypasses the need for a separate device)

By "screen capturing program" I mean something like Bandicam (or in my case, Simple screen recorder because I run Linux). Just any program that captures exactly whatever is on the screen.

Thanks in advance.

I understand that this may not be possible so as a second option, I'm looking for a cheap capture card that records in HD. Cheap in my opinion is <$100

Simply put, no.
You can do it with a camcorder, but you'd need a digital camcorder, and other adapters for the audio.

A capture card is the best option for that.

PC video cards don't have video INPUTS only OUTPUTS so they only show video not receive it.

Capture cards, camcorders, TVs and monitors have video inputs. and the first two also have outputs. TVs may have video outputs as well, but that's for mirroring the display.
