I've had the computer 5 or 6 yrs, it runs well.
Intel(R) Core (TM) i3 CPU 550 @3.20GHz dual core
64Bit operating system
Windows 7 Home Premium servce pack 1
AMD Radeon HD 6670 Graphics card
Probelm i've been having is I purchased HYPERX 8GB DDR3- 1866 CL 10 240-Pin UDIMM Kit 92x 4GB) and although it fits well (replacing 2 x1GB DDR3 ), it beeps all the time when booting up. So I took out the other 2x1GB DDR3 and left in the HYPERX and the Dell started up, then powered down, then powered up, then down...etc. so Ive putthe old 4 x 1GB ram back in to research to see if its something I'm stupidly missing.
looking at your in depth Q & A on Ram, I thought it should work.......any ideas would be greatly welcomed....thanks

Solution
Which Hyper X - Savage, Fury...... If either one, they prob aren't compatible due to being made with high density memory ICs. The 550 is an 1156 CPU designed for the DRAM of the period that used low density memory ICs. Might look to a 2x4GB set of RipJaws (the original, not the X or Z models) which use the low density chips, anothe r option if the GSkill value type of DRAM, the NT series

thanks so much for your help. I'll send these back. it was HYPER FURY.

Inspiron 580 computer is what I have. I misread the wrong link. Do you think the 2x4GB set of RipJaws or GSkill value type of DRAM, the NT series would work on this Dell?

thanks again for your kind help

Dell's own site
You've searched for Inspiron 580
Dell Inspiron 580

Maximum Memory: 8GB
Number Of Slots: 4

so it must be possible
