Well 16GB is becoming the norm, my guess is 2018 that 32GB will be the norm by the end of the year, 2 was the norm thru about 2010, 4GB "was all you'll ever need' thru 2012/13 then 8GB became the call, and we already have games using 8GB, saw something about one calling for 12GB before the end of the year. GPU DRAM is growing, so system DRAM will be growing also

Posted this elsewhere earlier... re-posting here for the exact same reason and adding to it for nostalgic reasons.

It was 1993 do the math then make your comparisons to how quickly things can change... it was not long before this 256-512k was a good amount of RAM. So 1993 I had a 386 running a 25Mhz-33Mhz Turbo CPU you pressed a button to activate it which was good. Turbo on games did not improve performance... it would literally speed up the entire game sometimes way beyond play-ability. LOL
I had a 40MB HDD loaded with win 3.1 and Dos 6.0
I still used my commodore64 pretty extensively as I had a better selection of games for it. It had 64K of RAM on-board I had the 128K RAM extender for it and would run it with four 5 1/4" disk drives, 2 standard and 2 shadowed... don't remember what the increase in performance was or if it was even discernible. LOL But between this and the old NES I preffered the commodore because I had more in depth games and other options like music synth and drawing programs even though the games were not as good looking.

1993 16MB was standard 32MB was thought of to be a good solid amount of RAM for any computer and 64MB was overkill. Dare I say it 128MB was just an obscene amount... For servers only(did they even call them servers then?)... or maybe scientists and crazy people. 256MB??? WHY?
We're reliving those same numbers all over again but with GB instead of MB tagged onto them. Sign of the times man...

Can you imagine owning a system with a single TB of RAM??? ...oh no way YOUR SICK DUDE! Sick? Nah...
But damn do I feel old! LOL
