A thunderstorm caused a bolt of lightning to strike the transformer on my street. Power was out for a few hours, when the transformer was finally repaired my desktop PC turned on just fine.
However, the network adapter will not detect the Ethernet cable when it is plugged in.
The device manager shows the network adapter as working properly, it just doesn't register the Ethernet cord as connected.
I realize that the adapter could be fried, I hope not as it is the onboard card of my motherboard.
Trying to find any alternatives before I purchase a new adapter card.

A switch is a device where you have additional port to connect multiple wired Ethernet device to the network. Like a USB hub for USB devices.

Most routers have a built-in 4-port switch to connect to a total of 4 wired devices. Try another port if you have more ports.
Some large network may have multiple switches, hence the reference

Depending on how your network is setup, if you have a separate (cable) modem, try directly connecting the computer to it.

Hey, i tried to plug in to diff ports as well as directly into the modem; no luck. The green light on the adapter in the pc does not light up either when connected.
