Hello,

I recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop and was having no problems. I turned off my computer and when I turned it on again, it wouldn't let me log in. When I try, the screen freezes and then turns black. After a couple more seconds it goes back to the log in page. Same thing for the guest account.
My laptop dvd rom is broken so when I originally installed it, I took my hdd from my laptop, put it in my desktop and installed it there. Afterwords, I put the hdd back into the laptop and it worked until now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Solution
Most likely a hardware recognition error since you originally configured ubuntu on your desktop. It will be looking for that hardware and bios, but may offer limited functionality on the laptop. Download the same ubuntu distro plus pendrivelinux yumi. Install yumi on your desktop rig, format a usb drive, use yumi to install the ubuntu distro on the thumb drive and reinstall on your laptop. Choose the option to format the laptop disc as part of the ubuntu install.
