I don't know if my case has a bottom dust filter, even if there isn't one would it still be better to aim the PSU fan downward to suck in cool air and not compete with the GPU? Also would it be better to have the pc sitting on something besides carpet since that will suck in loads of dust?

Of course. It will also suck in loose fibres from the carpet which wrap around the fan and wreck it. And a filter won't stop that. I have made myself a mini table approx. 20cm from the floor where my PC sits, its just above the "throw up&out dust from your foot stomping" treshold.

I have cleaned it once by now after 6 months and I was pleasantly surprised in how little work needed to be done.

So even without a dust filter it will be ok? Is there a way I can install one?

No it will not, that's what I'm talking about! Carpet---fibers---will ruin---psu fan! What is so hard to understand about that?

Any Computer case with the PSU on the bottom should be placed in an elevated position - stool, table, anything to keep it off the filthy floor!

But it is my opinion that it serves you right for buying with your eyes instead of your brains... ironically its what I was doing 5 years ago. it got exactly what I deserved back then and you are getting exactly what you deserve right now.:D
