Torn between two processors.

Hi guys I'm building a pc to run game servers off of and I'm torn between two processors a Intel pentium g3250 and Intel i3 4170 there is quite a large difference in price and I'm wondering if the i3 is worth the extra money?

Game servers needs more CPU power and RAM, if you're gonna go down that path, then you might as well buy an old smartphone and install Ubuntu on it.

Better go stronger now than upgrade later when, with time and server growth, its maximum tolerance has been reached and the whole system chokes.

An i5 4690K might be a good choice. Good CPU to begin with and if you need to upgrade at some point you can try overclocking it first.

Yeah I was thinking that but then I was told that it isn't very energy efficient and as it will be on 24/7 then I was looking at getting something quite efficient

Actually, game servers are one of a few things AMD chips excel at... Get an FX-6300 or FX-8320E instead of trying to run a server on an Intel dual-core.

By the way, if you're running a simple game server at home don't worry about energy efficiency. The increase in your power bill would be ~5-10$ per year.
