hi,

my mainboard is the asrock am1h-itx and i have 3 hard drives and 1 ssd with the os. allways after i have started the mainboard without one or more of the hard drives i have to change the boot device priority back to ssd as first boot. how can i adjust that the mainboard boots from ssd every time i start the computer regardless how many hard drives are connected?

Hi,

Basically every BIOS (basic input/output service/system) has what's called a boot sequence which refers to order in which every device boots. I'm assuming you've already selected the option allowing you to boot from a drive NOT already selected as the primary boot device? (In other words, a once off boot option because next boot it sets back to normal).

It's different with each BIOS. Some with have something along the lines of: "Press Enter to enter the BIOS/UEFI" *next to that* "Press F12 to enter the boot sequence menu".

In your case, you'll need to mash the button which sends you into the BIOS (enter, F2, F12 etc... whatever it asks for). Then click on the Boot tab located on the right, 3rd to last. You can arrange the boot sequence from the first lines as shown in this picture: http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/P6064592.jpg.

Hope that helps :D

:D i know how to change the boo priorities of the hard drives. thats not the problem. the problem is that this priority is changed every time a plug boot from an other boot disk or boot from an flash drive or something like. what i'm searching for is an option that makes the mainboard booting allways from the boot disk, when the disk is plugged in.

something like "boot allways from sata port no.1" regardless what hard drive (hdd or ssd) is associated at sata port1.

That is exactly what editing the boot sequence is for. It should overwrite the settings for which drive should boot every time PERMANENTLY on every boot until it's manually changed again.

1. the SATA power cables don't matter, but the regular SATAs do. The optical drive should be plugged into the 0 SATA connector, the C drive into 1, the secondary drive into 2 and the back-up drive into 3 (assuming it's for back-ups). If it's not containing a back up then it doesn't matter whether the drives after the C drive in port 1 are for example: drive A in connector 2 and drive B in connector 3. As long as they're connected. Double check this.

2. Also check that the SSD in particular is set to UEFI, since that's your BIOS.

3. If that doesn't work, un plug every drive including the optical drive and leave just the C drive in. If it still doesn't boot from that automatically then it may be a more complicated boot sequence error which I don't entirely know how to fix. You don't have a RAID configuration do you? Did you have one in the past?

when i boot from an other ssd the boot sequence is changed and one of the hard drives is at position 1 - but it's not the same hard drive every time.

The optical drive should be plugged into the 0 SATA connector, the C drive into 1, the secondary drive into 2 and the back-up drive into 3 (assuming it's for back-ups). If it's not containing a back up then it doesn't matter whether the drives after the C drive in port 1 are for example: drive A in connector 2 and drive B in connector 3. the machine i'm talking about is not a normal computer, it's my media center pc that works with linux without an optical drive. the problem is that in the manual i can't see whats sata0. as i remember the sempron 3850 apu doesn't support more than 2 sata ports, so asrock used an other chip the realize a mainboard with more than 2 sata ports. the ports are named sata3_1, sata3_2, sata3_a1 and sata3_a2. so whats sata0?

Also check that the SSD in particular is set to UEFI, since that's your BIOS.

yes, its uefi. what does this mean? on the image you've posted there is a hard drive on position 3 called "uefi corsair .." and on position 1 called "ahci p0 patriot ...". do you mean this?

UEFI stands for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface. The name Corsair Voy.... is basically just the name of the specific device which is set to boot last.
Now that I think of it, set the SSD to AHCI and the HDD's to UEFI. That may work.

I'm not really familiar with your BIOS's interface, however I believe it may be under the boot section or advanced section. You may need to look around...

It's a lot more difficult helping someone with IT stuff if you're not at their screen. Still getting used to it....
