son's 8 month old custom build no longer booting up

My now 13 year old son built his first PC in January. He did some research and used PCpartpicker.com to help him choose components. We first completed the build outside the box to insure everything was functioning as intended and then rebuilt inside the case. Below is the list of parts used:

CPU-AMD A8-5600K
CPU Cooler-Cooler Master Hyper TX3
Motherboard-MSI A58M-E35
Memory-Crucial Ballistix SportN4GB
Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB
Storage-Seagate Barracuda 1TB
Video Card-Gigabyte Radeon R7 260x
Case-NZXT Source 210
Power Supply-Corsair Builder 430W
Optical Drive-ASUS DRW-24B1ST

Everything had been working fine up until about a month ago. He then began to notice that at times the ps2 keyboard as well as usb devices (ie, mouse) would not work when trying to bring the computer back from sleep (running windows 7). Sometimes powering off the PC would fix the issue right away, other times not. The most recent and current issue is this - when he attempted to turn on the PC about a week ago after being shut down after normal operations the day before, other than fan noise, nothing happened. The DVD drawer still functions. The computer wouldn't boot up. Several days and attempts later, still no luck. I commented to him that I didn't hear normal PC boot up noises (hard drive cycling etc) but didn't really pay attention enough when we did the build to know what it sounded like when functioning normally.

After much reading and troubleshooting thanks to this site, we are still at a loss and believe the issue is the motherboard or PSU but wanted to make sure we have all are boxes checked before contacting the appropriate companies for warranty service.

The following has been attempted:

Double and triple checked all connections.

Ordered and installed a case speaker. Pulled both ram chips and powered up the PC. 3 short beeps heard.

Tried installing both chips individually in both RAM slots. No beeps at all. No change in boot status, no video.

Pulled graphics card and ran monitor to integrated mb graphics. No change in boot status, no beeps, no video.

Reset CMOS. No change in boot status, no beeps, no video.

Removed all components except CPU, PSU, and RAM. No change in boot status, no beeps, no video.

I think that is everything and most everything has been attempted multiple times.

I have a 15 year old COMPAQ desktop that I am going to see if I can connect the PSU to to try to eliminate that as the culprit but wanted to verify a couple of things regarding those connections. If I leave the PSU from my son's custom build in the new build case, and connect power to the old pc's mb, is that all I should need for the power button on the old pc to work? It appears that the graphics card in the old PC doesn't have a connection to the old PC's PSU.

Does the fact that we aren't hearing any beeps from the case speaker unless that ram is pulled give us any insight as to PSU vs mb?

Thanks so very much. It has been a bit frustrating for him and for me very disheartening to see something he worked so hard for with both research and saving money break down so soon.

Jim

Thanks For the recommendation and input James. I didn't mean to imply I was going to use the old PC's PSU as a replacement, just as a temporary means to try to narrow down the issue to MB or PSU.

"A 15 year old PSU is likely even worse than the Corsair however."

Again, I wouldn't trust a 15 year old unit to even diagnose, since they can damage other parts.

Uhh, but also, just to double check. You turned the powersupply back on/plugged all the cables back into the motherboard after you took those things out right?
