Hi guys,

I recently built my new computer and after using it for only about a week, I noticed there was a high pitch buzzing sound (later I found out it's coil whine) coming from my CX 750 PSU when I'm gaming(Definitely the PSU and not the GPU). The intensity of the noise depends on the game. It's pretty loud on WoW (where I'm getting between 100-200 fps), especially the loading/character selection screen. Other games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution is not as noticeable. The pitch and the intensity of the whine will also change within the same game depending on what I'm looking at in the game.

I saw that there are a few people on this forums having this same issue with the same PSU. They solved this issue either by buying a different PSU or going through the RMA process with Corsair multiple times, and sometime that didn't even seem to solve the issue. I have no money left to pay for shipping and or any time to deal with the RMA process (I need my computer for work), so i was wondering if I can just keep using the computer with the coil whine if it doesn't bother me (I wear headphones with I game).

I guess my question boils down to: Will the coil whine from the PSU cause short-term or long-term damage to my computer if I keep running it? Stuff I've read online is pretty divided so I wanted to ask it here.

Admirable

Background Information On CX PSU's
1. Terrible Build Quality
2. Terrible Component Quality
3. Not Meant For Gaming or Heavy Use.
4. It's made for people who surf the web and use programs that are not demanding or push the limit of the PSU.

Anyways i know people who's PSU have blow and your more expensive components may be damaged because of this. I would say get a Tier 2 PSU minimally. CX is a Tier 4 PSU.

I would recommend Antec HCG, Seasonic M12II, EVGA GS, XFX TS or XFX XTR.

Okay thanks for the info. I should have probably done more research before buying the CX 750. I used a Corsair PSU in my previous PC for like 6 years with no issues so I just assumed this one would be good as well. Now I found out that Corsair doesn't even technically make the CXs or something. I'll take a look at the other models you've recommended.
