Hello, I am planning to upgrade to asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 motherboard. Sorry because I am not so tech savvy so I may not use the proper technical terms. Just a general question, how good it is overall?? I also have an existing sapphire R9 290X graphic card which is as any one may know quite big. So in future I am planning to also add asus Xonar Essence STX sound card to this board. Again any inputs on this of how good it is? So as everyone knows that since both pci slots are close my hardware engineer told me there can either be a heating problem or else the sound card may not fit in the small slot due to the large size graphic card. So in that case we will have to move the graphics card to another pci express slot which means it will give lower performance. So now my main question is will moving the graphic card to say the second pci express slot degrade its performance or is it just a myth? If yes then how much slower will the card be, because I use my pc mainy for gaming? Thanks to all.

I don't think it will be a problem, just don't put it in the Black slot as that is a x4 slot, according to the specs. The second tan PCIe slot should be perfect with no difference. In the BIOS, set the PCIe slots to work as dual X16 and both tan ones should be equal.

But then I have another question. asus is a bit difficult motherboard to deal with as I had a couple of them and they gave me a lot of problems. The drivers are not good. Since there will not be an actual graphics card there in the first slot then will there not be any problem as we will be telling the bios that there are 2 gpus. So when it detects no card in the first slot will it give problems??

No, it will just run what it detects. By telling it to run Dual x16 mode, you are just giving it a configuration to run on, there are a couple options in there and you are just making sure that the slot runs at full speed. I've had the "luck" of having nothing but great experiences with ASUS and use ASUS and ASRock almost exclusively in my builds. Seems to be just luck of the draw.

I know i am replying after a long time. I have purchased the SABERTOOTH motherboard.

But just recently a couple of months back I checked in my bios; there is no "Dual x16 mode" in there. :(

I am planning to add the sound card "ASUS Xonar Essence STX II" [ the one without the daughter board ] [ https://www.amazon.in/ASUS-Sound-Essence-STX-II/dp/B00ONSBF4K?tag=googinhydr18418-21 ] in addition to the already existing graphics card, plus planning to buy a sata 3 expansion ports pcie card as shown below and add it to the same motherboard as described above.

https://www.amazon.in/Express-Controller-Non-Raid-Adapter-Converter/dp/B078STJ22G/ref=sr_1_38?ie=UTF8&qid=1532091064&sr=8-38&keywords=sata+3+pcie+card

can someone tell me the best slots to put these 3 cards together on these motherboards??

will this sata 3.0 expansion card of say 2 slots for 2 hard disks cause any instability on the system.

can anyone suggest good brands for this card.

Thank you everyone for your help.
